A limited number of scholarships are awarded each year to help cover the costs of course tuition, travel, and accommodations for highly qualified students without the resources available to participate. Scholarships may include:

  • course tuition waiver
  • course tuition waiver, plus accommodation* and meals for the duration of the course
  • course tuition waiver, plus accommodation* and meals for the duration of the course, plus travel support

*Accommodation is provided for a double-occupancy room with a person of the same sex. Scholarship awardees who have preference for a single-occupancy room will be responsible for paying the additional fee (approximately USD $480 – difference subject to change) on their own.

We usually award several international and several domestic scholarships per year. Scholarship recipients will be selected by Course Directors and are awarded based on evidence of merit and commitment to STD/HIV research, with consideration of the country of origin and type of organization.

Scholarship selection is very competitive, so we recommend that prospective participants seek external resources to attend the course whenever possible.

A complete scholarship application consists of the following components:

  • Completed scholarship application
  • Completed general application
  • Letter of recommendation (see details below)
  • Institutional support form (see details below)

Letter of Recommendation

  • From a current or past supervisor, instructor or professor
  • Must be emailed directly to by the applicant or the recommender

  • From your employer/organization giving permission that if you are awarded a scholarship, they will approve the time necessary to attend
  • Should also mention any financial support they can/cannot offer in conjunction to a scholarship
  • Must be submitted by the employer/organization and emailed directly to

Scholarship applications are reviewed by the Course Directors. All pieces must be received by the scholarship application deadline of March 15, 2019. Incomplete applications that do not include both applications and supporting pieces will not be considered. Notification of scholarship award will be sent via email approximately 3-4 weeks after the scholarship deadline. Those who apply for a scholarship will be reviewed for general course acceptance as well, and will be notified if they have been accepted to participate but not granted a scholarship.
